The following was actually a reply to two letters defending Coulter’s criticism of the Spielberg movie “Munich.” ash neither saw the movie nor was interested in Coulter’s gobbledygook against a perceived boogeyman on the left. Since it was clear the issue wasn’t honest literature but a vendetta against liberals, ash addressed the subtext and ignored the content of the letters per se (which both revealingly referred to her by her first name). Thus, she hasn’t bothered to reproduce them here:

Revelations abound. Hollywood is dominated by liberals. College campuses are liberal bastions. Some magazines and newspapers are left-leaning, as are some pundits. What else? Well, what else is there?

Here’s the other side: the military is conservative. Wall Street is conservative. Radio talk show hosts are in the conservative majority. And, oh yes. Congress and the administration are controlled by conservatives.

Apparently, Ann Coulter wants it all.

A few years back someone produced a hagiographical (that means a fawningly biographical) documentary with the beguiling title, “Is It True What They Say About Ann?” Beyond the questions begged – is what true, who’s “they,” and what do “they” say – is the exception to the rule that any of the above categories is the exclusive domain of liberals or conservatives. As for the quality of the tribute to Coulter, I can’t vouch for it. Though I believe it consists of a series of public appearances, I never saw it. And quality is subjective.

Which brings me to Coulter’s column slamming the Oscar nominees, in which she attacked not the quality but the content.  Of the best picture contenders, I’ve seen one, the one that happened to win. I haven’t seen Munich, and neither has Coulter. While I reserve judgment, she condemns it on the basis of the events depicted without taking into account its point of view. That’s my objection to her column: it was mean-spirited not as a critique of the movies but yet another dismissal of all things liberal.

There’s a glaring remedy to Coulter’s complaint. Conservatives should make more movies. I understand Mel Gibson made one recently which Coulter may feel was snubbed in terms of awards but sure did well at the box office. Unless I’m mistaken, it’s the money that counts.
