But at some point she was struck by the juxtaposition of it with its flip side, also in the news as stem cell research was debated. Is there a link? She thinks so:
Not that I’m a scientist, which I’m not, much less a physician, but it seems to me that if life ends when the brain ceases to function, life begins when the brain has developed enough to become aware of the self’s existence. Or, in the alternative, to feel anything at all.
