Having formed her opinion early on, she proceeded to ignore the developments as they occurred.  But at some point she was struck by the juxtaposition of it with its flip side, also in the news as stem cell research was debated. Is there a link? She thinks so:



Not that I’m a scientist, which I’m not, much less a physician, but it seems to me that if life ends when the brain ceases to function, life begins when the brain has developed enough to become aware of the self’s existence. Or, in the alternative, to feel anything at all.

Not that that proves anything. I also seem to remember someone named Terri Schiavo.
