I laughed out loud at the last paragraph of the Ellis Island article in today's edition. Immigrants believing they were in New York were actually in New Jersey?
When all four of my grandparents arrived there from Russia early this century, I doubt they wondered what state they were in. They were probably thinking, "I better hold onto Mommy's hand" while Mommy and Daddy were thinking, "This is the United States. No more persecution."
