Several recent letters to the editor have asserted Christianity as "the only path to heaven," based on the word of Christ himself, via the Bible.
This strikes me as circular reasoning, the prerequisite acceptance of the absolute truth of Christ's teaching in order to accept Christianity as the absolute religion. In other words, Christianity is the only valid belief system because Christ proclaimed that it is. But since one must first be a Christian to believe what Christ preached, simply because he preached it, the argument falls apart.
Several writers have gone so far as to declare this a "Christian nation." Of course (however one defines the word "is") it is not.
