ash has often answered the question, "How often do you write letters to the editor?" with the perfectly honest, "Whenever I have to." In the following instance, ash was provoked by another letter's attack on homosexuals masquerading as protection of family values, so sweetly concluding, who could be opposed to that? It depends on whose values. 


My, my, my. What have we here? It’s an editorial filled with polite bigotry masking the bigotry by being polite.

And it starts by criticizing a previous editorial for coming to a conclusion as opposed to employing the reporting formula of on the one side this, on the other side that. Imagine that: an opinion piece expressing an opinion in a current debate.

On one point I do agree with the author. Gay – wait, that should be “gay” – marriage certainly is a moral issue demanding good sense, Midwestern or otherwise. All civil rights struggles are.

Outraged? Nah. If anything, I appreciate the honesty of a blatant appeal to the worst of human nature. It makes me that much more liberal.
