Well, he asked for it. “He” being Mike, the editorial page editor. Since he couldn’t ignore the ultimatum, he asked for reader feedback. Hey, ash is a reader, even if she’s no longer a subscriber. You know what to do. Just hit this LINK for the article to which she’s responding. And yes, the letter wrote itself.

Of the many aspects and tangents to Coulter’s latest incendiary statement, I’ll concern myself primarily with the inevitable pushback to the proposal to cancel her syndication by the State Journal-Register.

No, conservatives, there is no “moral equivalence” between Coulter and the liberal columnists – Ted Rall, Ellen Goodman, the late Molly Ivins – in terms of extreme rhetoric on either side. Rall’s assertion that much less Iraq, the United States should not have invaded Afghanistan is not remotely comparable to Coulter’s infamous “We should invade their [Muslim] countries, kill their leaders, and convert [the peasants] to Christianity.” Nor was Ivins, the ultimate populist, ever reduced to pure vitriol and substanceless ad hominem in her editorials, nor does social progressive Goodman – ever – stoop to eliminationist language in an attempt to demonize The Other.

This is how Coulter operates, and has done so long before the “faggot” comment, long before the “raghead” remark she made at last year’s Conservative confab, and did so again following the John Edwards smear, when she appeared at a “restore Christianity to government” convention to muse that she could “understand” why abortion opponents would kill doctors who perform them; after all, the millions of “unborn children” versus a handful of physicians do comprise rather lopsided statistics.

Now for an aside: it is rather disingenuous for the house editorial to “thank Goodness” that this newspaper managed to escape the notice of conservative corrective Media Matters for America when I know for a fact that it did NOT evade being targeted by the online publication Editor and Publisher in conjunction with the gay rights organization Human Rights Campaign. I’m the one who sent them the contact information.
