If sarcasm is an effective literary device, and it can be, so is pretending to take sarcasm at face value. Labels are all right, but no substitute for a substantive foundation.

Thanks to far-left liberal for setting us straight

We here in the Springfield area are fortunate indeed to have ash to analyze current political events for us.

Those of us who watch Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh need to be set straight occasionally. We especially need the observations of a far-left liberal in order to realign our thinking about our elected Republican officials, and see them for the scoundrels that they really are.

Thanks so much, ash and SJ-R. We will definitely all vote straight Democratic in the upcoming election. Throw the rascals out!

ash replies:

Attention all citizens, particularly conservatives, and in particular far-right religious fundamentalist Evangelical “values” voters: you are being had, not only – though especially – by this administration, with handsomely rewarded assistance by Rupert Murdoch-owned enterprises and opinion-making pundits. FOX News is a bromide and Rush Limbaugh (who, for all of his jocularity, may well be another Richard Cory) doesn’t actually believe the propaganda he dishes out to keep you complacent. James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, Tony Perkins et. al. may not be contemporary Elmer Gantrys, but their outrage at having been played for fools by our aristocratic government is as feigned as their striving for theocracy is dangerous.

Unless you’re part of the scheme – either a donor to or a recipient of keeping the affluent affluent and the afflicted afflicted – your political affiliation is of consequence only to the success of the operation. Continuing to uphold it – through your votes and other means of support – will not automatically entitle you to the rewards of this authoritarian venture. The moral issues on which you base your allegiance are but the bait to be switched with the economic benefits the ruling class derives. Aspire to that class and you may or may not achieve it. In any event, you can never fully immunize yourself against the wrath and revenge of those you leave behind.

The wrath is palpable and the revenge is forthcoming. Currently there is an inexorable drive toward adjusting the disparities and correcting the inequalities. It’s called an election. Join it, and you too can contribute to the cause of righting the egregious wrongs. Resist or actively work against it and you will be relegated to the chapter of history entitled “Failed Anti-Democracy Project.”

This has been a public service announcement from your local far-left liberal correspondent. We now return to our regularly-scheduled complicit media.
