This is the first in a series of short, hopefully pithy remarks, many of which were posted on the DailyKos (liberal) website in the comments section of reader diaries. In this case, the topic was one Richard Cohen of the Washington Post, self-proclaimed liberal and accused self-hater, whose articles often undermine his own alleged poltical affiliation. As is ash's tendency, the focus is on Cohen's psychological motivations, manifested in attacking fellow liberals and the Democratic party, as gleaned through the article itself, which declared satirist Steven Colbert "not funny":
Actually, your article is about you and how you give yourself away. To adopt your faux sophistication, to wit:
It's called a defense mechanism.

ash has often answered the question, "How often do you write letters to the editor?" with the perfectly honest, "Whenever I have to." In the following instance, ash was provoked by another letter's attack on homosexuals masquerading as protection of family values, so sweetly concluding, who could be opposed to that? It depends on whose values.
My, my, my. What have we here? It’s an editorial filled with polite bigotry masking the bigotry by being polite.

Ah, this one should be self-explanatory. Flipping, of course, is a rhetorical device in which the rebuttal takes the original author's own words and inverts the logic.
As many of my letters dealing with politics are of the conservative view, they seldom appear in print. It seems the space is reserved for the local liberal lips who day after day spew out their venom to chastise this administration.
